Open Wave?

Why didn't I see a lot of fuss over this announcement?

http://googlewavedev.blogspot.com/2009/07/google-wave-federation-protocol-and.html

First code drops associated with Google's Wave project released under the Apache license to experiment with....and a stated intent to open up the codebase for their in house wave instance. And the protocol specification is under create commons as well.

Seems Google is really serious about promoting the concept of a federated instance space for wave..and really wants other people to create and manage their own wave instances that can talk to each other.  And just as importantly Google seems to very interested in having external people in on th ground floor as the wave protocol is maturing..instead of doing an over the wall code dump of a mature project. That's a bit different than the approach they took with Android and definitely worth watching.
